Carlyle R. Scanlan, age 84, of rural Bancroft, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 at his home.
He was born November 28, 1929 in the town of Buena Vista, Portage County, the son of Roy and Ethel (Boushley) Scanlan. He married Ruth E. Beyer on April 22, 1956 in the United Methodist Church, Plainfield.
Carlyle served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country he returned home where he and his wife farmed for most of his life. Carlyle was a member of the United Methodist Church, Plainfield, the Plainfield/Waushara VFW Post 6007 of Plainfield and the American Legion Post 339 of Almond. Carlyle and Ruth enjoyed spending the last 30 winters in Florida where he enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Scanlan, Bancroft; one son, Scott (Jodi) Scanlan, Bancroft; two daughters, Deborah (Jerry) Nelson, Arena and Vicki (Dave) Miller, Montgomery, TX; nine grandchildren and four great grandsons; further survived by several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Shirley Webster and a granddaughter, Kelly Jo Nelson.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Plainfield. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Leikness and Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield and from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
