Caroline E. Clendenning, age 78, of Plainfield, received her wings into heaven the morning of Palm Sunday, the first day of spring, March 20, 2016. She passed away surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home after a tremendous fight battling kidney cancer.
She was born July 11, 1937 in Butternut, Wisconsin the daughter of George A. and Meta E. (Zoesch) Wegner. She married Michael J. Clendenning on November 5, 1960 in Waukegan, Illinois who preceded her in death on December 30, 2009.
Caroline was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She graduated from Butternut High in 1955 and traveled to Milwaukee to work at Master Lock Company where she met her future husband, Michael. In 1966 she and her family moved to the Plainfield area. She worked at Midwestern Farms for 22 years, 33 years as a cook at Camp Moshava in Wild Rose, and was the Town of Oasis Treasurer for 35 years. She enjoyed her Packer & Badger Games, Four-wheeling with her husband and children. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, belonged to Prairie Pointer Quilt Guild and loved making quilts for family and friends. Her real joy was spending time with her six grandchildren.
Caroline is survived by her three daughters, Linda Zakowski (Paul), their children Zachary, Ryleigh, Lindsey and Mycenzie; Debra Clendenning; Lisa Vistain (Shawn) and their children Camden and Corey. She is further survived by brothers Harold Wegner (Vi) and Frank Wegner (Gayle) and many in-laws and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, George and Meta Wegner, her sister Helen Holt, a brother George Wegner, brother-in-law Bud Holt a nephew Stephen Wegner, mother and father-in-law Wesley and Marie Clendenning, brother-in-law Patrick Clendenning, and sister-in-law Helen Nagorski.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, Almond, where she was a member. Burial will be in the Oasis Cemetery, Town of Oasis, Waushara County. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield and from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church.
