David L. Reid, age 74, of Plainfield, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday evening, December 27, 2017 at his home.
He was born May 6, 1943 in Wisconsin Rapids the son of Lyle O. and Johanna M. (Kraemer) Reid. He married Shirley A. Wegenke on April 8, 1967 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wautoma.
Dave was a 1961 graduate of Tri-County Area High School. After graduation he attended UW-Madison and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture. He then farmed for several decades with his brother Fred until his retirement. Dave enjoyed spending his retirement time doing what he liked best, being on a tractor working part-time for James Burns and Sons of Almond. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church, Plainfield, and he served on the Boards of the Plainfield Village and the Wisconsin Potato Growers. Dave was an avid Wisconsin sports fan, a lifelong hunter, and loved to read about airplanes and space. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and he had a huge soft spot for his beloved cats. Dave had a giant heart, a contagious smile, and a great laugh he shared freely with everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley A. Reid of Plainfield; his loving children, Craig (Vonda) of West Salem, Aimee of Portland OR, Mark (Nicole) of Verona; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Chase, Easton, Spencer, Quinn; his brothers, Fred (Mary) of Plainfield and Dale (Anita) of Eau Claire; his sisters, Joan Kramer of Nekoosa, and Diane of Stevens Point. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Johanna, his brother Douglas, and his granddaughter Abigail.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., in the United Methodist Church, Plainfield. Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Monday at the Stahl Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services at the church. Please take a moment to view the online guestbook.
