Dorothy A. Bates, age 79, of Plainfield, passed away Friday evening, September 5, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield.
She was born June 6, 1935 in the Town of Preston, Adams County, the daughter of Erich and Barbara (Hollman) Koehler. She married Maurice Bates on June 14, 1952 in Plainfield. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1987.
Dorothy, along with her husband and family, operated the family dairy and sheep farm for many years. She was later employed at the Royal Supermarket of Plainfield for many years. Dorothy also worked in various local farm markets as a salesperson. She was past president of Golden Agers Club and enjoyed spending time with friends at the Senior Center playing bingo and dominoes. Her most favorite pastime was spending time with family, especially grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Dale (Maxine) Bates, Plainfield, Ellen (Jere) Erdman, Stevens Point, Mark (Judy) Bates, Plainfield, Cindy (Ron) Hayman, Galloway, Kristi (Mark) Hintz, Almond; 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, one brother, Richard Koehler; four sisters, Barbara Jean (Bob) Meyers,
Beth Kappel, Joan Leinweber, Karen (Charles) Church; further survived by other relatives and special friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a great granddaughter.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
