Elizabeth "Pat" Mae (Webster) Spees Weymouth passed away peacefully May 28, 2024 at Silver Lake Manor, Wautoma, WI at the age of 94.
Pat was born July 10, 1929, to James Enoch Webster and Isabelle Catherine (Fritsche) Webster in Iola, Wisconsin.
She recalled her childhood on the family farm near Almond with her parents and brothers as the happiest time in her life. Pat attended the Lone Pine School. In 1947, she was a member of the first class to graduate from Tri-County High School in Plainfield, WI.
As she was finishing high school, Pat was swept off her feet by a handsome navy pilot returning home from WWII. She married Charles "Barney" Spees July 19, 1947 at the First Baptist Church, Plainfield, WI. Together they raised FOUR sons in Plainfield and then Wisconsin Rapids, both where Barney was a history teacher. During the 1950-60’s, Pat coordinated uprooting her young family to be with Barney each time the military required additional training or deployment. This included entire household moves to Georgia, Texas and Washington. Pat often joked about waking up every day for 23 years with a stomach ache! When the boys were older, Pat worked at a furniture store in Wisconsin Rapids and later became co-owner of Baby and Bedroom. Weekends and summers were spent at the family cottage on Lake Huron; including daily “Happy Hour” campfires with kids, cousins and friends. In 1984 Pat and Barney moved to their retirement home near Plainfield, raised vegetable and flower gardens, and often traveled throughout the US until his passing in 1999.
Pat was a sociable woman who enjoyed the company of others. She was always the light that brightened every day, whether golfing, playing cards, out for breakfast or lunch, even during appointments or exercise class, while shopping, or living at Silver Lake Manor. She had the uncanny knack of being curious about the life of all those she met and treated them as her “New Best Friend”. She loved going to the theater or movies at the Plainfield Opera House in the 1950’s. She was a supporter of theater locally, and thrilled for trips to New York City for performances on Broadway. She regularly shared Disney classics with her grandchildren, as well as Bette Davis and superhero adventures or westerns with her sons.
In 2000 Pat married Richard “Dick” Weymouth, and they enjoyed 16 years together including community involvement in Plainfield and travel.
Pat has been a faithful member of the United Methodist Church congregation. She worked on several community projects with SOS, the church bazaar, and Lions Club projects. Her favorite was The Splash Pad, “for the little ones”. As her health failed, she was grateful for her last home/community at Silver Lake Manor in Wautoma, her friends, and the loving care she received..
Pat’s family and especially grandbabies were the light of her life. She is survived by her four sons - Andrew (Marsha Splitt) Spees, Plainfield, WI; Kirby (Sallie Mayer) Spees, Poynette, WI; Edgar (Tammy Schmidt) Spees, Nekoosa, WI; and Nicholas (Carrie Hamm) Spees, Plainfield, WI. Nine grandchildren - Brady (Nicole Fromm) Spees, Stevens Point, WI; Kathleen Spees (Drew Miller), Bethesda, MD; Mitchell (Gabrielle Ethier) Spees, Clovis, NM; Megan (Devin) Hagan, Wauwatosa, WI; Jaclyn Spees (David Lippi-Guerrón), Madison, WI; Kassi Spees (Trent Layton), Madison, WI; Kelli Spees, Nekoosa, WI; Harley Spees, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; and Jacob Spees (Kristen Barbiaux), Appleton, WI. Thirteen great-grandchildren - Jackson Spees, Campbell Spees, Maxwell Spees-Miller, Magnus Spees-Miller, Tycho Spees-Miller, Carter Spees, Sophie Spees, Hailey Hagan, Declan Hagan, Hunter Spees (Corey Fullington), Orion Spees, Rosemary Spees, Dominic Spees; and two Great-Great Grandchildren - Es'Stella Spees and A'Zaylah Spees. She is further survived by nieces and nephew Linda Webster (Tom Machan), Coloma, WI; Tom (Suzie Wade) Webster, Brown Deer, WI; and Karan Webster Cowden (Robert Cave), Parrish, FL.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-law Charles (Lois Vroman) Webster and James (Nancy Pearson) Webster, as well as a nephew Dan Webster.
Pat’s love continues for so many extended family and friends: from golf, church, the lunch ladies, neighbors from Wisconsin Rapids, Plainfield, Long Lake and Huron Lake; and especially for her dear friend, Ruth.
Religious services will be held at 11:00am July 13, 2024 at the United Methodist Church, Plainfield, WI. Pastor Grace Eunhye will officiate and then invite family and friends to share memories of Pat.
In lieu of flowers, the family will forward memorials to the United Methodist Church in Plainfield, St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital, Plainfield Lion’s Club, and the Plainfield Public Library.
