Gene Louis Bloede, age 85, of Hancock, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Portage County Health Care Center, Stevens Point, WI. Gene was born the 5th of 7 children in Richford Township, near the head of the Mecan river, on May 3rd, 1939, to the late Alfred William and Verna Agnes (Krinke) Bloede. He attended school in Coloma, WI.
As a young man, Gene worked on the family farm prior to making his life on his own farm in rural Hancock where he raised livestock, to include cows, pigs, chickens and even goats at one point. Gene was very skilled and efficient with a chainsaw. It was early on in life when Gene discovered his passion and what would be his lifelong profession of logging wood and cutting pulp. Gene continued to cut wood and swing a chainsaw until the age of 81. When he was no longer able, Gene liked watching and studying others cutting trees while reminiscing of his pulp cutting days.
Gene was an avid deer hunter who built himself a large deer stand overlooking his acreage where he harvested and proudly hung multiple buck racks in his home. The Mecan river was where Gene learned to fish, goose and duck hunt. He was once in the newspaper for winning the largest perch caught during the Winter Carnival Fisheree at Friendship Lake.
Gene was a devoted father and single parent to his son, Charles (Chuck) Bloede. He also held the title of Dad by his late stepson, Ric (George) Musland. The boys grew up learning about the important bond of brothers from their dad. Gene loved all his family, but was especially close with his brother, Kevin, speaking with or seeing him almost daily. Brother, Ron, drove Gene and Kevin to Nashville, TN in 2018 which became the trip of a lifetime for Gene. The family is incredibly saddened by Gene’s passing. He will be remembered for his kind nature, resourcefulness, and sense of humor.
Gene is survived by his son: Charles Bloede of Almond, WI; 2 grandchildren: Christian Bloede of Plainfield, WI and Jeany Bloede of Madison, WI; 1 step granddaughter: Brandy Musland of Waukesha, WI; 2 brothers: Ron (Karen) Bloede of Menominee Falls, WI and Kevin (LaVina) Bloede of Hancock, WI; several nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents; stepson: Ric (George) Musland; 1 brother: Darwin Bloede and 3 sisters: Darlene Czeskleba, Gloria Bloede, and Linda Sneiderman.
Per Gene’s wishes, there will not be a service. His final resting place will be in Coloma Hillside Cemetery next to his parents.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at the Portage County Health Care Center and Stahl Funeral Home.
