Gordon D. Monroe, age 82, of rural Hancock, passed away peacefully, December 1, 2020 at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point.
He was born May 30, 1938 in Coloma the son of Dana and Blanche (Davis) Monroe. He was blessed with 63 years of marriage to Joanne (Spencer) Monroe and blessed to have five children: Barbara, Betty, Becky, Bobbe Jo and Amy Jo.
Gordon will be fondly remembered for his kindness and compassion to anyone he met. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren excel in everything they did. He was a humble man who enjoyed farming, socializing with people and sharing his love of the Lord. He enjoyed working on the family farm and also hauled milk for several years until his retirement.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Joanne Monroe, Hancock; Barbara Kubat, Betty Scott, Becky (Dairel) Leitenberger, Bobbe Jo Sparby and Amy Jo (Phil) McQuillen; loving grandchildren, Katie Kubat, Justin Scott, Travis (Dawn) Scott, John (Tiffany) Schurk, Calvin (Haley) Brownlow, Christian McQuillen, Trenton McQuillen, Tabitha (Josh) Collins; numerous great grandchildren; further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gordon was survived by two sister-in-law’s, Violet Monroe and Frances Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Daniel Monroe, two son-in-laws Charles Kubat, David Sparby and two grandsons, Charles “Chuckie” Kubat and Jack Stalker. He was preceded in death by his brothers Kenneth Monroe, Douglas Monroe, and Norman Monroe, as well as two sisters, Irma Reindl and Florine Leach, and one sister-in-law, Caroline Monroe.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 4, 2020 from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. in the Stahl Celebration & Remembrance Center, Wautoma. Private family services will be held on Saturday. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, Coloma. In lieu of flowers a memorial in Gordon’s name has been established. Due to the current health crisis, masks are required during the visitation.
