Hector H Olivares, age 79, of Bancroft, was called home, Monday, May 1, 2023, at Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in King after a short battle with an illness.

He was born April 21, 1944 in Fisher, Minnesota to the son of Ricardo and Juanita (Hernandes) Olivares. He married Meregilda Casas on October 30th, 1971, in Wautoma, WI.

Hector loved his family and good food and could often be found looking for creative and interesting recipes to share with the family. Food was an expression of love, and that love could be found by experiencing his best over easy eggs, Christmas dinner steaks, or any meal which would require the family to come together. He was happiest when his home was filled with family.

Family time with Hector meant taking the kids for tractor rides, playing a game of 6,5,4 and arguing over the rules (because Hector was always right), or simply sitting at the table laughing and reminiscing.

He enjoyed spending time at the local gas station where he appointed himself the “official coffee maker” to which he was honored with his own key to the gas station while welcoming in the local coffee gang to swap stories and local news events.

He had a witty sense of humor and would love to tease and harass his daughters, grandkids, or any person he encountered, as no one was a stranger. He loved to entertain and was always the center of attention, there was never a dull moment with Hector in the room.

He took pride in his military status, how he raised his three daughters, his grandchildren, and most importantly, the home he created with the love of his life.

Hector served his country in the United States Army where he obtained The Bronze Start Medal and was later honorably discharged in 1969. He was employed at 3M Company until his retirement in 2000.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Meregilda Olivares, his children Yvonne (Troy) Dobbertin of Plover, WI, Yvette Wickesberg of Kaukauna, WI,  Yonnie (Cory) Coulthurst of Plover, WI, grandchildren Mercedes, Myles, Lilliana, and Dylan, siblings Minga (Tony) Sosa of Snyder, TX, Pete (Norma) Olivares of San Antonio, TX. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Tyler (Mijo) Ethan Dobbertin.

Hector was an amazing husband, father, awesome grandfather, and friend. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 5th, 2023 at 6pm in the Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield, followed by full military honors.
