Joyce Marie Jung, born January 26, 1937 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin passed away peacefully at her home
in Wautoma, Wisconsin on February 12, 2025 at the age of 88.
Joyce leaves behind her loving husband of 70 years, LaVerne Jung. Joyce and LaVerne were a true yin
and yang. Grandpa would say to go left, Grandma would say to go right (even if the destination was on
the left). Grandpa strictly forbid fireworks, Grandma would pass a fist full of money to go purchase the
contraband explosives. Grandpa would concisely provide his point of view, Grandma would let him know
he was wrong. Grandpa loves rules. Grandma said, “To hell with those rules.” Their symbiotic relationship
was adverse on the surface, but truly rooted in a deep, whole-hearted, never-ending love for each other.
During her time on earth, Joyce achieved many accomplishments. As a devout Catholic, her younger
years were spent raising a rambunctious 6-pack of children (no small feat). She then worked for the Town
Hall of Richfield for 24 years, eventually being promoted to Town Clerk, a position held in the highest
regard. She thrived in the hustle and bustle of the busy work environment and her exuberant personality
could be felt deep within the heart of her community.
Joyce had a vivacious soul. She wasn’t a sit-at-home-and-crochet type of grandmother. She was a
gambling, martini-drinking, lust-for-life type of grandmother. She embarked on girls’ trips to Deadwood
and a cross-country roadtrip with numerous casino stops. When her tween grandchildren were asked to
exit a casino by security, Joyce quickly snapped back, “The kids are fine! It’s not like they’re gambling!
They’re just watching the pretty lights!” Then as soon as the enforcer turned his back, Grandma would
pass us a quarter and a wink. She was never one to be told what to do.
After all her children were grown, Joyce and LaVerne embarked on a Hawaiian adventure most could
only dream of. They purchased an oceanfront condo complete with pool, beautiful landscaping, whale
watching & tropical breezes. They enjoyed making new friends and attending pu-pu parties by the pool.
But what grandma loved most was when family would come to visit. She beamed with pride about this
amazing accomplishment and relished in sharing the experience with those she loved.
The Fourth of July was Joyce’s favorite time of year. An annual conglomeration of all the kids, kids’ kids
and their friends. It’s always a come one, come all extravaganza complete with campers on the lawn,
beer pong, music, scooters, boating & fishing - the more commotion, the better. Even overflowing port-a-
potties brought her joy...mostly because Grandpa was in charge of the toilets and she found humor in his
frustration.
Joyce held family in the highest regard and was proud of all accomplishments, big and small. Whether it
was celebrating grandchildren learning how to walk, landing new jobs, building cars, winning races,
catching newspaper-worthy fish, or earning college degrees, Joyce was endlessly filled with pride and joy
of the family she created. None of us would be who we are today without her influence. She was a true
wonder and inspiration who will never be forgotten and forever live in our hearts.
Joyce leaves behind her loving husband, LaVerne Jung; children, Daniel (Sandra), Cynthia (Archer),
Mark (Cindy), Brian, John (Tammy), Tammy (Andrew); grandchildren, Tiffany, Daniel (Beth), Mark, Amy
(Benjamin), Michael (Heidi), Trisha (Mitchell), Joseph, Darek, Jeremy; and great-grandchildren, Morgan,
Jack (Morgan), Mitchell, Kate, Benjamin, Sam, Vincent, Lexi and Annabelle and countless other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will take place in Wautoma, Wisconsin, summer of 2025.
