Laura Beryl (Kitchen) Flyte, age 90, of Plainfield, died on September 21, 2016 at Silver Lake Manor in Wautoma, where she had resided since February.
She was born on November 5, 1925 in the town of Deerfield, Waushara County, the 7th daughter of Alvin and Mildred (Newhall) Kitchen.
Beryl attended Four Corners Country School and graduated from Hancock High School in 1943. The following year, she worked in Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee.
On July 8, 1944, she married Stanley Flyte in Oklahoma City, OK, where he was stationed in the Navy. In February 1945, they returned to Plainfield and purchased their farm, part was once owned by Stanley’s grandfather.
Beryl loved to cook and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She was known throughout the area for her chocolate cake.
On March 1, 1965, they purchased Royal Supermarket in Plainfield and had the store until January 1, 1975. In the fall of 1981, Beryl returned to the business world, opening a general clothing store known as “The Shoppe.” After retiring, Stanley and Beryl enjoyed taking many bus tours and saw a lot of our beautiful country and landmarks.
She is survived by her two sons, Larry (Karin) Flyte, Plainfield, Lee (Cheryl) Flyte, Coloma; one daughter, Lois Marshall, Plainfield; eight grandchildren, Lynn (Ron) Clapper, Plainfield, Mike Marshall, Plainfield, Amy (Kent) Janisch, Coloma, Lori (Matt) Jenks, Appleton, Kevin Flyte (special friend Caly), Hancock, Adam (Carrie) Flyte and Jessica (Matt) Rettler, all of Coloma, J.R. (Kristen) Flyte, Westfield; 20 great grandchildren, Brandon, Shayla and Sydney Clapper, Tyler (Flyte) Bates, Seth and Tanner Janisch, Madalyn and Islea Jenks, Mikayla, Tristan and Taylor Flyte, Kelsey and Mia Flyte, Karissa, Makenna, Addyson and Elliana Rettler, Henry, Charlie and Lola Flyte; her brother-in-law, Richard Marsh; special friend, Mary Ann Aanensen, Idaho; special class-mate, Norma Hilgert, Wautoma; further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters and their husbands, Alice (Wesley) Heinz, Doris (Ronald) Rous, Olive (George) Graf, Freda (Lloyd) Carlton, Elvah (Richard) Swainston, Patricia (Kenneth) Rojahn and infant sister, Ilene Ruth; two sisters-in-law, Mary Flyte and Phyllis Marsh.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 12:00 noon in the Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the North Deerfield Cemetery, Town of Deerfield, Waushara County.
