Mary C. (Johnson) Caves

Mary Christine (Johnson) Caves , 95, of Plainfield passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

Mary was born to Reuben and Hazel (Randall) Johnson in Chesterton, Indiana on August 25,1926.

During her childhood years, the family moved several times finally residing in Plainfield where her grandfather pastored the Plainfield Baptist Church and Mary graduated Plainfield High School in 1944. She married Earl Caves on January 30, 1946, in Minnesota. She and Earl were married 54 years until Earl’s death on June 30, 2000.

Mary’s husband Earl Caves, their grandson Cory Caves, their great-grandson Tristen Nigh, and Mary’s younger brother Clark Johnson all preceded her in death. Mary’s younger brother, Richard Rickerson, of Colorado and her eight children survive her. Her children are as follows: Pat (Don) Rhoda; Randall (Deborah) Caves; Christine (Bill) Russell; Joan (Harvey) Nigh; Joy (Paul-deceased) Van Airsdale; Kay (Dave) Eastling; Myron “Mike” (Sherry) Caves; and Janice (Dave) Brownlow. Mary’s seventeen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive her.

Mary enjoyed gardening, family gatherings, sewing, music and dancing, and going out to eat.  Mary was active in her church and the Rogers-Oestrich American Legion Auxiliary Unit 343 Hancock, Coloma, and Plainfield.   More importantly, Mary enjoyed being with her family and was the best Mom in the world.

The visitation will be on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at the Hancock United Church of Christ, 301 N. Main Street, Hancock, WI from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with the funeral at the church immediately following the visitation. A lift is available through the backdoor of the church for those wishing to attend but have difficulty navigating stairs.
