Mary A. Gear, age 95, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Silver Lake Haven in Wautoma with her family at her side.
She was born July 19, 1929 in Coloma, the daughter of Clio and Anna (Schrank) Urban. She married Richard Gear on July 23, 1947. He preceded her in death in June of 1959.
Mary grew up in the Plainfield area graduating from Hancock High School in 1946. She later went on to work at Consolidated Papers, Grant School and Ron’s Family Restaurant as a secretary. Mary will be fondly remembered for her love of music and always willing to play the piano for any church services. She recorded a record with her many music selections.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Jack) Zywicki; daughter-in-law, Kathey Gear; eight grandchildren, Jim, John, Ken, Jennifer, Adam, Patrick and Molly; her 17 great grandchildren; three brothers, Roy (Mary) Urban, Gerald Urban, Gary (Sandi) Urban; further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Delbert; grandson, Richard; and sister, Betty Faultersack.
Her greatest loves were her faith in God, her family, and her church family especially pastor Barry West. Her favorite saying was “das ist gut, as momma would say”.
Memorial Services will be held in the spring of 2025. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Plainfield Cemetery.
