Nanette “Nancy” M. Stahl, of Wautoma, was peacefully called home on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, surrounded by her family at her home, at the age of 75.
Nancy was born September 12, 1949, in Berlin, WI; daughter of the late Arthur and Nita (Straw) Schley. She grew up in the area, attending local schools, and graduated from Wautoma High School with the Class of 1967.
On May 24, 1969, Nancy married the love of her life, John Stahl. The two were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wautoma, a community in which they would remain lifelong residents. Nancy was a devoted wife and loving mother to their two sons, Dean and Jeff. Her kind heart and nurturing personality led Nancy to work as a teacher’s aide for 26 years at Riverview Elementary School in Wautoma, where she made a positive impact on other children. Nancy truly was a doting wife, mother, grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend. To know her was to love her, and be loved by her.
Nancy lived to enjoy all life had to offer. She enjoyed attending her grandchildrens sporting events and spending time playing cards and other games. In their later years, Nancy and John spent many winters in south Texas as well as Florida, meeting lifelong friends along the way. Down south, Nancy loved to ride the golf cart, go out to eat, go rummaging, play cards, listen to music, and visit with her friends. Above all else, Nancy’s greatest joy was with her friends and family. She loved spending time with them, whether it was at Fish Lake, Hancock, or at her home on Silver Lake in Wautoma, where they enjoyed riding four-wheelers, going out to the hunting cabin, having fall scavenger hunts, or just enjoying the fall colors together. Nancy also relished in telling stories about the good ol’ days!
Nancy is lovingly survived by her husband of 55 years, John Stahl; her sons, Dean (Valerie) and Jeff (Angela) Stahl; her sisters, Patti (Larry) Dittburner and Judi Weiland; her grandchildren, Brady and Ava Stahl, Brianna (Ryan) Viertel, Kiersten (Hannah) Hunt, and Sydney (special friend, Derek) Williams; brother-in-law, Robert (Pat) Stahl; sister-in-law, Marilyn Stahl; special nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Nita Schley; her brothers-in-law, Frank Weiland and Fred Stahl; and her step-father, Mike Sauerbrei.
For those wishing to express their sympathies, the family kindly requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Nancy’s name to ThedaCare At-Home Hospice (1818 N. Meade St., Appleton, WI 54911 - include donation form found on website) or St. Joseph Catholic Church (364 S. Cambridge St., Wautoma, WI 54982).
