Norman A. “Norm” Schubert, age 84, of Stevens Point, formerly of Hancock, passed away Monday morning, August 1, 2016 at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point.
He was born September 23, 1931 in Richford, the son of Arnold R. and Augusta W. (Riebe) Schubert. He married Nancy Wandrey on May 28, 1955 in Wautoma.
Norm embraced an active life with friends and family. As a 1949 graduate of Westfield High School he earned track medals at state. Norm proudly served his country from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict, receiving a Purple Heart and Honorable Discharge. He supported his family as a rural mail carrier for 30 years and supported his children’s sporting activities never missing an event. He played softball as a young man for Richford and on a senior league in Mesa, AZ where Norm and Nancy wintered for 24 years. His sense of humor, leadership, and dedication made him a beloved member of the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department, the American Legion Post 343, and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Richford.
Norm is survived by his wife, Nancy Schubert, Stevens Point; his loving children, Sylvia Sigourney, Coloma; Kathy (Dean) Buffington, Appleton; David (Pam) Schubert, Wisconsin Rapids; Mary (Mike) Resch, Plover; Bob Schubert, Hancock; Mark (Stacy) Schubert, Hancock; 12 grandchildren; Nathan (Jennie) Sigourney, Justin Sigourney, Kevin Buffington, Anna (Bryan) Reinhold, Dixie (Andrew) Kurer, Jenny Schubert, Aaron (Amanda) Resch, Kaitlin (Robert) Frize, Megan Resch, Bradley Schubert, Jayden Schubert, Addison Schubert; 5 great-grandchildren; Ben, Carson, Mackenzie, Liam, & Charlotte.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents, sister Adeline Bray, and son-in-law Ed Sigourney.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield. Burial will be in the Hancock Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
