Biography
Paula May Oertel, age 41, formerly of Mt. Morris, passed away Monday, August 2, 2010 at Park View Health Center, Oshkosh following a courageous 12 year battle with brain cancer. She was born April 13, 1969 in Milwaukee, the daughter of James A. and Audrey Kay (Romens) Oertel. Paula was a 1987 graduate of Wautoma High School. Prior to her diagnosis of brain cancer, she was employed as a caregiver for Alzheimer patients in Oshkosh while attending nursing school. Paula loved her family, especially her nephew Joshua James. She is survived by her mother, Audrey Oertel, Mt. Morris; her maternal grandmother, Evelyn Romens, Wautoma; her sister, Terrie Oertel, Oshkosh; her nephew, Joshua James; aunts and uncles, Delores (Jerry) Jolitz, Ripon, Leroy (the late Ellen) Taylor, Milwaukee, Loren (the late Janet) Potter, Michigan, Daniel Bolander, Wisconsin, Karen (the late Leon) Romens, Wautoma, Joanne (Vince) Marean, Colorado, Norbert (Jeanne) Romens, Amherst, David (Joan) Romens, Mukwonago, Shirley (Ken) Koch, Abbottsford, Rodney (Debra) Romens, Dorchester, Reed (Geri) Romens, Pittsville, Carol (the late Duane) Romens, Neillsville, Eileen (Robert) Pautz, Menomonie, John (Cheryl) Oertel, Rio, Peter (Lynn) Oertel, Menomonee Falls, Joseph (Kathy) Oertel, Lakeland, FL. She is also survived by many cousins, other relatives and friends. Paula was preceded in death by her father, James A. "Jim" Oertel; maternal grandfather, Woodrow Romens; paternal grandparents, Elmer and Josephine
Oertel. She was further preceded in death by aunts and uncles, Beverly and Norbert Wolski, Darlene Bolander, Paul Oertel and Richard Oertel. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Leikness Funeral Home, Wautoma with Sister Mary Ellen Doherty officiating. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Wautoma. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established. Paula's family extends heartfelt appreciation to Froedtert Hospital, Vince Lombardi Cancer Center, Aurora VNA, and Park View Health Center for their loving care and concern.
