Romona M. Schulist, age 92, of rural Plainfield, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, February 2, 2022, at House of the Dove in Marshfield, Wisconsin, after a brief stay under hospice care.

Romona was born May 3, 1929, to Charlie and Flossie (Crawford) Allison, on the family farm in West Plainfield. She graduated from Plainfield Schools. Romona married Martin P. Schulist on June 28, 1947. They were blessed with five children: Bernadette (Jack) Sherman, Wayne (Kathy) Schulist, Chuck Schulist, Brenda (Robert) Buchberger, Julane Schulist (Daniel Peterson); grandchildren: Jim (Wendy) Sherman, Jacklyn (Jeremy) Hanson, Cole Schulist and Aaron (Jennifer) Schulist; great grandchildren Sierra Sherman (Nathan Kats), Dane Sherman, Ty, Drew and Evan Hanson, and Mitchell Schulist. She is survived by four children, all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren; her Aunt Betty Meyer; her sister Donna Pichelmann; sisters-in-law Gert Treutel, Rita Borski, and Pat Raczek; further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Her life changed the night Martin preceded Romona in death, April 22, 2007. She was also preceded in death by son Chuck; her parents, and siblings Merlan, Bob, and Evelyn Allison; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Romona loved visits with her kids; cooking and baking for family gatherings; feeding and watching birds, of which her favorites were cardinals, hummingbirds, and orioles; doing word puzzles; watching cooking shows and young chef competitions on tv; and keeping in touch with dozens of people in her address book yearly, through Anniversary, Birthday, and Christmas cards as well as letters. She loved visitors and chatting about her family and our shenanigans. She supported many worthy charities, so we encourage donations to the charity of your choice, in her memory. Romona was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Plainfield for many decades and remained devout even when homebound, watching mass on the Catholic tv channel, listening to hymns and regularly saying the rosary.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Plainfield with the Rev. Andrew Kurz officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the church.
