Ronald “Ron” Ray Allen Bender went home to Jesus on June 5, 2022 at age 82.
Ron worked as a Plumber & Pipefitter until his retirement in 1999, and remained an active member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union 434 for a combined 57 years.
He served in the United States Navy from October 6, 1958 - September 5, 1962. He was especially proud of the time he served on the USS Galveston. Ron was a shipfitter and was instrumental in the refit of the ship as a Galveston-class guided missile light cruiser. On 16 January 1959, the Galveston successfully launched the first Talos supersonic surface-to-air missile which was termed “The best antiaircraft missile in any arsenal in the world. During his time at sea, Ron spent time in many areas of the world including Puerto Rico, West Indies, Virgin Islands and Guantanamo Bay.
Ron is survived by his children Melinda Davies, Melissa Bender-Munsch and Erin Alexander: brother Ivan; sisters, Carol and Cindy; grandchildren, great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bruce, Glen, Bennie and Conrad; and his sister Joy.
