Ruth Elaine (Beyer) Scanlan

Ruth Elaine (Beyer) Scanlan , age 85, of rural Bancroft, passed away Tuesday morning, December 19, 2017 at Portage County Health Care Center.

She was born October 30, 1932 in Town of Helvetia, Waupaca County the daughter of Carl and Rose (Parsons) Beyer.  She married Carlyle R. Scanlan on April 22, 1956 in the Plainfield United Methodist Church.  He preceded her in death on July 27, 2014 after 58 years of marriage.

Ruth moved to Almond when she was 6 years old and later attended Almond High School where she graduated in 1950.  Mrs. Scanlan was employed at Gamble-Skogme Store and Sewitt & Sherman Pickle Station until her marriage to Carlyle in 1956.  Ruth later farmed with her husband raising cash crops until their retirement.  When they were not farming, they enjoyed fishing and spending the winter months at their winter home in Florida.  Ruth was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Plainfield.

She is survived by her children, Deborah (Jerry) Nelson, Arena, Vicki (Dave) Miller, Montgomery, TX., and Scott (Jodi) Scanlan, Bancroft; nine grandchildren and five great-grandsons;  her sister, Joyce Buelow, Waupaca, Sandra (Jerry) Eastman, Hazelhurst; her brother, David Beyer, Morrisonville; further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter, Kelly Jo Nelson; siblings, Elsworth and Marion Beyer; sister-in-law, Shirley Webster and Darlene Beyer; Brothers-in-law, Harlyn Beulow and Hollis Webster.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Plainfield.  Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00-7:30 at the Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield and from 10:00 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the church.
