William Raymond "Bill" Briggs, was born on October 17, 1946 in Oshkosh the son of George Raymond and Ada Louise (Weiss) Briggs. Two years later his father passed away. Bill was then raised by his mother and stepfather, Ed Schultz of Spring Lake, WI. He graduated from Wautoma High School in 1964. While serving in the United States Army he was deployed to Vietnam for almost a year, after which he was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. There he met and married his wife of 54 ½ years, Jane (Stephens) Briggs.
Bill was an over-the-road truck driver for approximately 30 years. After his retirement, he drove dump truck for 10 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Green Bay Packers, Brewers and NASCAR. In the last 12 years he enjoyed getting together with his friends and “talking” about fishing, hunting, Packers, Brewers and NASCAR, while having a few brewskies.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Briggs, Wautoma and daughter, Sheila Johannes of Omro; three special grandsons, Bradley Johannes & Maddie of Winneconne, Andrew Johannes & Madelyn of Eau Claire, and Colin Johannes of Wautoma; two brothers-in-law, Neil Stephens & Carol of Overland Park, KS., and Alan Stephens of Chelmsford, MA.; his nieces, Diane & Steve Hoffman of Cedar Grove, WI., Karen Feldmann of Spring Lake, WI.; his nephews, David Schultz of Sheboygan, WI. and Steven and Barbara Greenfield of Newark, OH.; further survived by other relatives and many special friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, half-brother, Clifford Greenfield, stepbrother Donald Schultz, sisters-in-law, Barbara Schultz and Pat Elmer. Parents-in-law, San & Helen Stephens, brother-in-law, San Stephens and nephew, Mike Greenfield.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Veterans Administration for several years of valued care and support. Special Thanks also to all the home health team. We deeply appreciate the Compasses Hospice Care nurses for getting us through a difficult time.
A time to celebrate Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a veterans tribute at 12 noon at the home of Bill and Jane Briggs, W7007 Irogami Trail, Wautoma.
